WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Charles E. Verran, 27 Jan 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Charles E. Verran, 91, Kilby Road, Johnson City, died Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at Lakebridge Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Mr. Verran was a native of Mitchell County, N.C., and the son of the late Thomas and Martha Fender Verran. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Hill Verran, November 1, 1980; two daughters, JoAnn Hambrick and Brenda Bishop; a granddaughter, Kimberly Jenkins; three brothers, his twin, Harley Verran, Thomas Verran and Frank Verran; and a sister, Ethel Gaskill. Mr. Verran retired from North American Rayon Corporation and worked at Food City for several years following his retirement. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church and was a lifetime member of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622 F.&A.M. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Leon and Janis Verran and Don and Nancy Verran, all of Johnson City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry Kilby, Johnson City, and Kathleen Jenkins, Knoxville; a brother, Hugh Verran, Johnson City; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, January 29, at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 120 East Chilhowie Street, Johnson City, with the Rev. Joe D. Dowlingsoka officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 30, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends at Otterbein United Methodist Church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Charlotte Kilby, 109 Kilby Road, Johnson City, at any time.
