WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Opal B. Williams, 14 May 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Opal B. Williams, 71, Greenlee Road, Johnson City, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Williams was a native of Butler and a daughter of the late Samuel Henry and Nannie Holden Hankins Byers. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ledford, and a sister, Audry Hankins. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a longtime member of King Springs Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Vergess James Williams; three sons, Wesley Williams, Elizabethton, Roger Williams, Johnson City, and Randy Williams, Summertown, Tenn.; and one sister, Lillian Byers Townsend, Johnson City. Ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 15, in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home with Steve Hillman, minister, officiating. The graveside committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at Fairview Cemetery, Greeneville. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Those planning to attend the service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m. Sunday. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
