The following information seems to be a testament to her remarkable times of yore. She was probably born in Coffee County, Tennessee, to James Hart (ca 1803, North Carolina) and Mary __(ca 1822, Tennessee). The Coffee County 1850 Census lists: Hart, James - 47, Mary - 28, George - 10, John - 7, Lucy - 6, James - 5, and William - 2. Lucy Jane Hart married Jeremiah Low(e) March 23, 1854, in White County, Tennessee. The White County 1860 Census lists: Lowe, Jeremiah - 23, Lucy J - 19, Mary - 4, and John - 1. This means that either Lucy's supposed year of birth is erroneous or she married at age 9 and gave birth to her first child at age 11. Lucy (Hart) Lowe married Josiah McCoy November 20, 1863, in White County. This brings to light that the male child Bouregard listed in the White County 1870 Census along with Mary & John were from Lucy's marriage to Jeremiah Lowe, although there is no indication of this fact. Four children were born from this union (listed from oldest to youngest): Priscilla, Dixie, Francis Lee, and Sarah P. (Sarah would first appear on the 1880 Census). Family lore says that one day Josiah unearthed a sizable container of gold coins, put the coins in his saddle bags, got on his horse, road away, and was never seen or heard from again. Lucy (Hart) (Lowe) McCoy married George W. Crawford September 17, 1877, in White County. In the White County 1880 Census two new female offspring's are identified as George Ann and Amanda N (with the four bona fide McCoy children listed as stepchildren). By the time of the White County 1900 Census George Crawford has been married for two years to a woman named Elmyra, who had no children, and a daughter named Joseph C (age 6, born Indian Territory) is listed with the family. This indicates either the child is Lucy's or was adopted. If the child is Lucy's then perhaps she died between 1894 and 1898 (there is no proof of this statement). If the child was adopted Lucy's legacy continues. Lucy J. Crawford married Lewis L. Green November 1, 1883, in White County. In the White County 1900 Census the following family is listed: Green, Lewis L - 85 (born 1815, Tennessee), Lucy J - 55 (born August 1844) had 13 children with 9 children living, and the last known child being Mattie - 15 (born 1884, Tennessee). On the very next page of this 1900 Census is O'Connor, Sidney Stanton, his wife Dixey (Lucy's daughter), and their family. Biography research by Ronald H. James.
