He died in that county, February 5, 1830 or 1831, both years being given in the widow's application papers. He was born in January, 1758, in Spottsylvania County, Virginia. He enlisted in Newmarket, Spottsylvania County, early in 1777, and served in Captains Quarles and Long's companies, Colonels Charles Dabney and William Brent's Second Virginia regiment. He was discharged sometime in 1780 after three years' service. In 1796 he resided in Pendleton District, S. C., and after 1810 he moved to what later became White County, Tennessee. He married August 5, 1790, in Greenville District, S. C., Elizabeth Parker who was born December 23, 1775. She survived him and applied, for pension in 1840 while residing in White County. In 1851 she lived with her son, Peter Arnold, in Coffee County. She died prior to March, 1853. Francis and Elizabeth Arnold had fourteen children, among them; William, born 1791; Peter, the seventh child, born 1803; Colbird, a son, the eighth child, born 1807; Samuel, born 1811; Hayes, whose birth is not given, and others who are mentioned although names and birth dates are not given in the widow's application paper.
