He was born in 1762 in Southampton County, Va. He lived in Brunswick County, Va., when he entered the service, his regiment being commanded by Col. Lucas. The regiment was stationed in the Isle of Wight County, Va. After the War he moved to Rutherford County, N. C., then to Greeneville District, S. C., and from thence to White County, Tenn. He died in White County, May 21, 1834. His widow, Ruth Harris, moved to Illinois where she died before 1853. They had a daughter, Mary Ann Harris Courland.
