He enlisted while residing in Halifax County, Virginia, in 1776, in Captain James Cobb's company. During the Revolution his father's family moved to Guilford County, North Carolina, and Abner Norris enlisted in Captain John McAdoo's company, Colonel Pacely's regiment. North Carolina troops. He enlisted again under Colonel Pacely and was in the engagement at Shallow Ford. Note:- Abner Norris appears on the printed list as Abner Morris and he so appears in Pamphlet II but the Veterans Administration Bureau gives his name as Abner Norris.
