FRANCIS WILLIAMS



   Francis Williams applied for revolutionary pension while residing in White

County, Tennessee, in 1832. He was born in January, 1752, in Pennsylvania, and

moved to Maryland in infancy with his mother, his father then being dead. Their

names are not stated in his pension application. While he resided in Hartford

County, Maryland, about twenty-five miles from Baltimore, he was a member of

small parties in protecting the property of citizens from attacks by the enemy.

He then volunteered and served as a private in Captain Bennett Bussey's company

in Maryland troops. The company marched from Baltimore to Annapolis and returned

to Baltimore and then marched by way of Philadelphia to Fort Washington. He

witnessed the battle of White Plains where three members of his company were

killed, although the company was not actually engaged in the battle.



   He moved from Maryland to what was later Carter County, Tennessee and moved

from there to White County, Tennessee, where he died March. 1, 1833. His wife

predeceased him. Their children were: Mary Connor, born in 1772; James Williams,

who in 1861 was 66 years of age and living in White County, Tennessee; and

Francis Williams, born 1791.
