WHITE COUNTY, TN - OBITUARY - JAMES ADAIR - MARCH 1851 ----¤¤¤---- Source: "Nashville and Louisville Christian Advocate", June 19, 1851 NASHVILLE AND LOUISVILLE CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE, May 29, 1851 OBITUARY OF JAMES ADAIR Died, in White county, Tenn., on the 9th of March, 1851, Mr. James Adair, for six months he suffered deep affliction. Though his sufferings were constant, yet he bore them with resignation, which the virtue of the gospel only inspires. He was born in North Carolina, in the year 1790, and emigrated to this State in youth, and was united in wedlock to Miss Margaret, daughter of Thomas Pettit, who slept peacefully in death about one year before he died. In early life he became religious, joined the Methodist Church, in which he lived as a faithful class leader, and exhorter till called higher. All who knew him admired his course of piety, his heavenly zeal. He had none but friends; enemies could not live in the loveliness of his life. Finally, while ? ? standing upon the shores of Jordan, nearing the chilly waters, he "lifted up his face without spot; ? he was steadfast, and did not fear." And while he ? rests at home, in the presence of God, the writer would say to his children, and numerous friends, strive to imitate his Christian life, that you may share the honors of his home in heaven.
