WHITE COUNTY, TN - COURT - Francis Sophonia Blankenship Saylors 1898 ----¤¤¤---- White County, Tennessee County Clerk Minute Book 1895-1917 Transcriber’s notes: Francis Sophonia Blankenship married Stephen H. Combs Saylors in White County, TN about 1889. She was the daughter of John and Margaret Jane Price Blankenship. Sophonia was born in White County, July 6, 1867 and died July 4th, 1920. Stephen Saylors was the son of Wm. Simpson “Simp” Saylors and Jane Gaulton/Galton. He was born Feb. 7, 1866 and died Feb. 23, 1898. Both are buried in Rice- Saylors Cemetery in White County, TN. SAPP, JEFF Pace, where the following proceedings were had to wit: This day the death of STEVEN H. SAYLORS (Stephen H. Combs Saylors) late of citizen of White County was suggested an proven in open court and further appeared to the court that S. H. SAYLORS died intestate the court was pleased to appoint W. M. SAYLORS Administrator of his estate and together with M. B. OLIVER and W. C. HITCHCOCK as his securities entered into acknowledged bond in the sum of three hundred dollars which was approved by the court and the said W. M. SAYLORS was given Letters of Administration and took the oath prescribed by law and entered upon the discharge of his duties. This day upon application of FRONA SAYLORS (Francis Sophonia Blankenship Saylors) widow of S. H. SAYLORS, decd., the court appointed T. H. FAUCHER, MATT FISK, J. G. ANDERSON Commissions to lay off and set apart a years support to the said widow, FRONA SAYLORS out of the estate of her deceased husband and commissioners will report their action to the next term of this court. PAGE 277 May 2nd, 1898 FRONA SAYLORS vs. Re: YEARS SUPPORT EXPARTE (In the interest of one party) We the undersigned Commissioners appointed at the April term of the County Court for White County this day set apart unto FRONA SAYLORS widow of STEVEN SAYLORS having been sworn set apart and lay off to FRONA SAYLORS the following articles out of the provisions and affects of the estate of her deceased husband 125 bushel corn, 300 lbs. bacon, 10 gallons sorghum, all the fodder and hay on hand, 25 dollars to be paid out of said estate necessaries which was not found on the premises April 11, 1898. AUGUST 7, 1899 Page 398 At a County Court began and held for the County of White in the courthouse in the town of Sparta on Monday 7th day of August, 1899. It being the first Monday in said month. Present and presiding the Hon. J. D. GOFF, Judge upon motion of SOPHRONIA (BLANKENSHIP) SAYLORS, widow of S. C. SAYLORS, decd., to have Commissioners appointed to lay off Homestead and Dowers out of the real estate of said deceased, S. C. SAYLORS and it appearing to the court that notice had been served on the Administration as well as the heirs of said deceased. The Court there upon appoints M. B. OLIVER, JOSH BROWN and D. L. HASTON, County Surveyors as such Commissioners and they are ordered to make their report to the next term of the court. Sparta, Monday Morning, 4th September 1899 White County Minute Book 1895-1901, Volume 29 Page 405 SOPHRONIA SAYLORS vs. HOMESTEAD & DOWER The undersigned Commissioners appointed the last term of County Court of White County to assign land allot homestead and dower to SOPHRONIA SAYLORS widow of S. C. SAYLORS, decd, out of the real estate of her said husband, S. C. SAYLORS, decd. After being sworn do assign and allot to her the following land: Beginning at a stake in the center of Taylors Creek just below the mouth of a branch from the north side of said Creek running Thence S. 2 ½ degrees W. 118 poles with the center of the line and on to a stake in a small hollow with two small possimons (persimmons) bush pointers, Thence East 30 poles up said hollow to a stake with 2 Black Oak pointers near the fence. Thence N. 10 degrees E. 10 poles to a poplar at the corner of the field Thence due E. 72 ½ Poles with the center of the fence to a rock in the corner of the fence, Thence 41 ½ degrees E. 76 poles with the fence to a post Oak in the outside with Black Oak Dogwood pointer, Thence S. 87 poles with ANDERSON’S line to a stake in their line, Thence S. 74 degrees E. 45 ½ poles with GLENN and ACUFF line to a rock with 2 Black Gum & Sassafras (Sassafras) Pointer, Thence N. 86 ¾ poles with STANLEY’S line to a Hickory with 2 Hickory Dogwood pointers in a hollow. Thence S. 75 degrees E. 70 poles to a small Black Oak pointers. Just outside of GRACY’S field and in his line, Thence N. 93 Poles to the creek containing by survey 174 ¾ acres which constitutes his homestead of $1000.00.
