He was the son of Christopher Dudley and was born April 17, 1756 on the Rappahannock River, Caroline County, Va. He enlisted in North Carolina troops in July, 1775 and in February, 1776 under Christopher Dudley and in June, 1780 under Samuel Lockhart. He was a private in his first three enlistments. March 22, 1781 he was entered the service again as Major of his regiment and March 30 was commissioned Lieut.-Col.; May 22, 1781 he was Colonel of the Regiment of Light Horse. He was in thei battles of Camden and Hobkirk Hill. He resided during the War in Halifax County, N. C. He moved to Tennessee and died in Franklin, Feb. 3, 1833. He married May 23, 1784 in Halifax County, N. C: Anna Eaton, born Dec. 21, 1763. She was the daughter of Thomas and Anna Eaton. She survived her husband and applied for pension while living in Franklin, Tenn., March 19, 1839. Their children were Frances Elizabeth, born 1785; Frances Bland, born June 30, 1786, married 1815, Dr. Samuel Crockett; Julia Ann Eaton, born 1788, married, 1810, Dr. Elliott Hickman; Thomas Eaton, born 1792: Elizabeth Helen, born 1794; Sarah Bland, born 1796; Guilford, Jr., born 1799; Judith Randolph, born 1800, married 1822. Nicholas I. Long; Carolina, born 1802; Virginia, married 1830, Thomas Woodson Cash, and Mary Matilda Pugh married 1830, James C. Hill.
