He was born October 25, 1761, in Amelia County, Virginia. When he was young he moved with his parents to Northhampton County, N. C. His father died about the beginning of the Revolution and he returned with his mother to Amelia County, Virginia. While living in that county he enlisted in 1776 or 1777 and served in Virginia troops under Captains William Jones and William Gerald or Garrell and Colonel Lewis Burwell. He served again in Virginia militia. About the time of the Peace Declaration his mother moved her family to Surrey County, N. C. George Hulme lived in that county and in Wilkes County, N. C., until about 1803 he moved to Williamson County, Tennessee. A brother, Robert Hulme, is mentioned in the pension papers but no other data are given.
