Hearne History From "A Brief History and Genealogy of the Hearne Family" by W. T. Hearne: "This table was furnished me, 1894, by a grandson of Ebenezer, Judge Rufus D. Hearne of Arkadelphia, Ark., and several sketches that follow were also furnished by him. "Ebenezer Hearne, son of Nancy Rancel and Purnell, born in Orange Co., North Carolina, Mar. 15, 1782, learned the saddler's trade in his youth and followed that business. He was the oldest son and first member of the Hearne family to move from that State to Wilson Co., Tenn., which was about the year 1800. After he had been in Wilson Co., a few years, say from 1807-1810, he succeeded in removing his father and family and two uncles, Thomas and George, and their families tothe same county, he making the trips to accomplish the removals . . . He married Betsy Turner, a widow of William Foster, Nov. 23, 1816 . . ." Ebenezer Hearne was the first Hearne to move from North Carolina to Tennessee, around 1800. After he settled in Tennessee, he convinced his father and uncles (Thomas and George) to join him. He made several trips back to North Carolina to help his relatives relocate from North Carolina to Tennessee. I also have found a birth date listing 13 March 1782. Ebenezer is listed as administrator in the Robert Turner inventory. Recorded 5 Feb 1827. Ebenezer Hearn was made the guardian of Thomas Turner, Wills and Inventories 1827 - 1836. Ebenezer Hearn was the executor of the Purnel Hearn inventory 14 Feb 1832. Ebenezer Hearn widow's allotment was made 3 March 1845. Ebenezer Hearn versus James Turner 1829. Commissioners appointed to settle with Ebenezer Hearn, administrator of Robert Turner, 25 June 1832. Ebenezer Hearn charged with gaming, 28 May 1840. Will Recorded 4 Jun 1844 (p. 109): Ebenezer Hearn's will bequeaths to wife, Elizabeth Hearn, all 18 negros until son Robert reaches age 21; sons Albert G., Orin D., Granderson T., and Robert E. are each given a negro when they reach age 21 or are married. Requests that Elizabeth support and educate unmarried children until they reach age 21 or marry and at that time to give them property to what his married children already have. Wills that daughters, Martha A. and Susan T. be given a negro and other property equal to that of the others. Leaves tract of land, livestock, furniture and farming utensils to wife Elizabeth. Tract of land on Cumberland where sons William F. and Whitson P. live to be sold on credit for at least $4,000 and proceeds to be divided equally among his children. Bequeaths to William F., Whitson P. and Louisa, one negro each and property already given to them. Appoints William F. and Whitson P. Hearn execturos. The Inventory was done 20 august 1844 p. 122. The settlement was on the 31 Aug 1847 p. 152-153. Family members listed in all these records are: Thomas Harris, William Gill, James Hearn, Benjamin Cox, John Hearn, Thomas M. Edwards, Whitson P. Hearn, William F. Hearn, Purnel Andrews, James Hearn, and Susan Hearn. 8 April 1846 (Chancery Court Book D, Pp. 199-203) Bill of complaint of W. F. and Whitson P. Hearn, executors of Ebenezer Hearn. Ebenezer Hearn died leaving his widow, Elizabeth; sons W. F. Hearn and Whitson P. Hearn; and six minors, to wit, Alfred G., age 19, C. D., age 17, Granderson, age 15, Martha A., age 13, Susan T., age 11, and Robert E., age 6; daughter Louisa Edwards, making nine in number. 8 March 1848 (Chancery Book D, Pp 449-451) William P. Hearn, Louisa Edwards and husband (?) M., Alfred G., Oran, D., Granderson who are of age; Martha, Sarah, and Robert Hearn who are minors, all heirs of Ebenezer Hearn petition to sell a tract of land.
