WILSON COUNTY TN - MISC - REVOLUTIONARY WAR PENSION APPLICATION - Samuel & Martha Scurlock ********************************************************************************* Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: Andy (oxdrover@mindspring.com) ********************************************************************************* I'm not a Scurlock descendant and have no further information on any of these people. In the Revolutionary War pension file (R9332) of Martha Scurlock, widow of Samuel Scurlock, filed in 1853 in Wilson Co TN, she states she and Samuel were married 23 Jul 1793. Marriage evidently took place in Patrick Co VA, performed by Baptist preacher John Ray. The couple came to Tennessee about 1795. A list of children of Samuel and Martha, in Samuel's handwriting, was submitted along with Martha's declaration. This list is copied below as it was transcribed and posted in an archived message to the SCURLOCK-L mailing list. The message can be found by doing a search at . Martha's declaration was posted today to the SCURLOCK-L List. Notice the Stephen Scurlock, born in 1811. In viewing the microfilm of this pension file, my reading of child "Jenny", born 1807, is "Jincy". [According to a few web sites, this was a nickname for Jane. Perhaps "Linsey", the name of the wife of Stephen Scurlock of Sparta, was actually "Jinsey". The old-style J, similar to today's handwritten capital I (=capital "eye"), could be mistaken for an L.] Martha Scurlock, William Scurlock and Stephen Scurlock are listed consecutively as heads of household on page 54 of the White Co TN 1830 census. Wilson County, where Samuel's widow Martha lived in the 1850's, is not far from White County.
