STOVALL RITES PLANNED Oct. 4, 1981 Services for Rev. John Merk Stovall, 97, Palestine, are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Theo Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery near Palestine. Rev. Stovall died early Sunday morning in a Palestine hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born April 4, 1884, in Fields Chapel community in Anderson County. He was a retired Congregational minister. He began his ministry in 1905 and continued until his retirement in 1975. He had helped establish churches in Tennessee Colony, Lovelady, Slocum, Days Chapel and Cherokee County. Survivors include two sons, John Herschel Stovall, Shady Point, Okla; and Edwin Lawrence Stovall, Montalba; four daughters, Mrs. Clifton (Louise) Williams, Mrs. Raymond (Dora) Russell, and Mrs. Geneva Morvant, all of Palestine; and Mrs. Donald (Gladys) Armstrong, Buras, La.; one brother, Clifton Stovall, Abilene; three sisters, Mrs. Viola Rivels, Abilene, Mrs. Beatrice Mertcalf, Monohans, and Mrs. Lois Morrow, Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. ***
