Thomas and Henry arrived first in early 1854 and were followed by Jeremiah. They all settled in the Angelina County area. On July 31, 1861, Thomas Havard was granted 320 acres of land that was located on the waters of the Neches River about 15 miles south of Homer, Texas. Thomas had a son named Thomas, but he was called "Tom" and I believe that is where the name for the cemetery came from. Their need for a place to bury their relatives, led to the creation of the Tom Havard Cemetery. Transcription: 1/20/2002. Dedication: I want to dedicate this transcription in the loving memory of our beloved forefathers: those three brave Havard brothers: Jeremiah, Thomas, and Henry. Directions: From Zavalla, Texas take 69 South (going toward Woodville). About 2 miles outside of Zavalla turn right on FM 1270. When the highway runs out, keep going straight on the dirt road beyond Clear Creek and the cemetery is on the right. There are numerous broken, illegible, etc. tombstones. I have been as careful as humanly possible in trying to decipher these tombstones. Any I am not sure about I will place a "?" beside. However, some of the tombstones were absolutely impossible to read.
