E. Ruby diary would like to know this information. The R. E. Ruby diary belongs to my mother, Olena Dew Ayers. It is in a safe deposit box at a bank in Lufkin TX along with a daguerreotype of R. E. Ruby in uniform, a metal powder flask & a maroon waist sash. The person who placed the transcription on the web page noted "some discrepancies" were probably to be found within. There are many, but most notably the year. No year was mentioned within the text of the diary, only months and days. The diary is written in a ledger, which was turned upside-down and written beginning on the back page. The front of the book is embossed and has a date scratched into the leather. We assumed the ledger was the only paper available to R. E. Ruby. The diary & the other items were given to my mother by her grandmother, Martha Olena Wilson Brown. Martha Olena was the daughter of Rosena Elizabeth Ruby Wilson, Elijah Lambert Ruby's sister. Elijah Lambert is the person the archivist assumed to be R. E. Ruby. Martha did not know who R. E. Ruby was, only that he was a relative of her mother. Elijah Lambert Ruby, along with his parents, Charles Ruby and Margaret Guard Ruby is buried in an unmarked grave on their home place near Pollok, Angelina County TX. There is a memorial to the three engraved on the west side of James Riley Ruby's marker in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Wells, Cherokee County TX. James Riley is also the son of Charles & Margaret Ruby. Mt. Hope is the resting place of two daughters of Charles & Margaret Guard Ruby. Rosena Elizabeth Ruby Wilson and Margaret Ruby Hicks are buried at Mt. Hope. Margaret Hicks was the first person buried in the cemetery. Susan Ayers cotton@lcc.net
