The State of Texas, 
County of Angelina

I, Silas N. Berry, born in Rusk County in the State of Texas, 
aged 62 years and 11 months, and by occupation a Hotel Manager 
do hereby acknowledge to have voluntarily enlisted this 25th day 
of March, 1933, as a private in the Ranger Force of this State, 
for the period of two years, unless sooner discharged by proper 
authority, without compensation.  And I do solemnly swear that 
I will faitfully and impartially discharge and perform all the 
duties incumbent on me as an officer of the Ranger Force according 
to the best of my skill and ability, agreeably to the Constituion 
and laws of the united States and of this State, and I do further 
solemnly swear that since the adoption of the Constitution of 
this State, I being a citizen of this State have not fought a 
duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying 
a challenge, or aided, advised or assisted any person thus offending.  
And I furthermore answer that I have not, directly or indirectly 
paid, offered or promised to pay, contributed nor promisted to 
contribute, any money or valuable thing, or promised any public 
office or employment to secure my appointment.  So help me God.

carefully examined by me previous to his enlistment, and to the 
best of my knowledge and belief he is physically able, competent 
to and will faithfully perform the duties incumbent on him in 
accordance with law.  This man is 62 years, 11 months of age.  
Height 5 feet 11 inches.  Complexion dark.  Eyes Brown.  Hair Black.  
Born at Carlisle, County of Rusk, State of Texas. Weight 150.  
Residence 404 Lufkin Avenue, Lufkin, Texas.  Occupation Hotel Manager.  
Married.  Previous Service: served as Deputy Sheriff, Rusk Co., 
Tex. 2 years; served as depty. sheriff of Nacogdoches Co. Tex, 
about 2 years; served as Depty. sheriff of Angelina Co., Tex. 
about one year; Police force Lufkin, about 2 years.
