Robert grew up in the Lily Island Community of Camden, Texas. He joined Lily Island Baptist Church at an early age. He later joined Bold Pilgrim Baptist Church in Kaufman, Texas. Robert graduated from Chester ISD in 1949. He continued his education at Prairie View A&M College, now Prairie View A&M University, with a B.S. in Agricultural Education. He married his wife, in 1954, shortly after he served in the U.S. Army. Robert received his MEd in Administration, Supervision, Elementary and Special Education also, from Prairie View A&M College. Thus began the life of an educator, first teaching Agriculture with Groveton ISD, Groveton, TX; teaching Elementary Education and coaching with Vernon County Line ISD, Zavalla, TX. He also taught agriculture and coached in Jewett ISD, Jewett, TX. He was a High School teacher with Gross ISD near Caldwell, TX. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture Resources and Conservation Serices - Soil Conservation Services- Soil Conservationist, R. C. & Development. Biologist and Engineers in Chambers, Liberty, Polk, Hardin, San Jacinto, Kaufman, Dallas, Rockwall, Van Zandt, Denton, Cooke, Collins, Mitchell,and Tarrant Counties until retirement in 1990. To the union of he and his wife nine children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents and a child, one of which was a twin, died at birth. Robert's greatest peasure was his family, farming and ranching. To his legacy he leaves his wife; eight children, seventeen grandchildren; 1 great grandson: two brothers, four sisters, and a very special godmother; Finally he is survived by a large loving family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whose lives have been enriched through their relationship with him.
