Avant, Sheriff of the County of Atascosa and the State of Texas having full confidence in Antonio Lopez of said County and State, do hereby nominate and appoint him, the said Antonio Lopez my true and lawful Deputy, in my name, place and stead, to do and perform any and all acts and things done by him pertaining to the office of said SHERIFF of said County and State, hereby ratifying and confirming any and all such acts and things lawfully done in the premises by virtue hereof. WITNESS my hand, this 12th day of Dec. 1902. A.M. Avant of Atascosa County, Texas OATH OF OFFICE I, Antonio Lopez, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as Deputy Sheriff of Atascosa County, Texas, according to the best of my skill and ability, agreeably to the Constitution and Laws of the United States and of this State; and I do further solemnly swear that since the adoption of the Constitution of this State, I being a citizen of this State, have not fought a duel with deadly weapons within this State, nor out of it, nor have I sent or accepted a challenge to fight a duel with deadly weapons, nor have I acted as second in carrying a challenge, nor aided, advised or assisted any person thus offending; and I furthermore solemnly swear that I have not, directly or indirectly, paid, offered or promised to pay, contributed nor promised to contribute any money or valuable thing, or promised any public office or employment, as a reward to secure my appointment as such Deputy, so help me God.
