Braley March 26 1961 - Letters Medina, Texas March 26th, 1961 My name is Nathan Virgil Braley, the only survivor of the immediate family of Erasmus Asberry Braley who was born in Montgomery, Alabama (date of which is unknown to me) and Rebecca Jane (Weaver) Braley born in Atlanta, Georgia, date unknown. My mother took her deathbed at Medina, Texas, and was removed to Bandera where she passed away and was buried there, do not know the date. My father E. A. Braley died and was buried at Junction, Texas, do not know the date but I do know his age 74 years 10 months and 22 days. Nine children were born to them, the oldest being my sister Mary Laura Braley Davis. Died at Roscoe, Texas. James Asberry Braley died at Cottonwood, Arizona, the father of 8 children; Edgar, who lives in Canada, J. O. is living at Cottonwood, Arizona, and Willie, and Milton, and Claude, and Mike, and Roy and one girl named Bessie. And I do not know where any of these live. My brother Thadeus Leroy, I understand you have a record of them. Warren Lorenzo Braley died in California; he had six children all born in Texas. Scott Braley, Clifford Braley, Owen Braley, and Bonny Braley, and Wilson Braley, and Ragsdill Braley. Do not know where any of them live. Walter W. Braley, my brother, died at Waco, Texas, at the age of 22. (in 1881) Leonidas Larkin Braley died at Luling, Texas; he was unmarried as was Walter. And my brother, John Daniel Braley, six years older than I, died at Junction, had five children, three of whom are now living; two of the boys are living at Junction, Johnny and Warren and the girl is married to a man named Wilson Gentry and I don't know where she lives. Then Nathan Virgil Braley, me, myself and I was born in Montgomery, Alabama on the 17th day of February, 172, and am not quite dead yet. No children. All of us were born in Montgomery, Alabama. My little sister Annie Clifford Braley Hamer was born in Gonzales County, Texas, had three children all boys born at Junction; the oldest, Clifford Hamer, died at Junction a few years ago and Billie Hamer now resides in Junction, and Herman Hamer lives at Odessa, Texas. This is about all I can write but there are many details which I could fill in if I were talking to you or some one. I realize that it is poorly written and poorly constructed, but it is the best the old man could do. Yours with kindred affection and all good wishes. Nathan V. Braley, J.P. Medina, Texas Box 72 (the rest is handwritten) Walter who died at Waco was known as Bud. Leonidas Larkin sometimes called Lee but better known as Jack. Later: I'm looking through some very old correspondence. I find that my father died on June 8, 1901. He was Irish. My mother Scotch.
