Its original function was as a wintering ground for the family circus founded by Andrew Jackson Richards who was born in Carroll County Georgia in 1847. This traveling show was in operation through 4 generations of family members in various forms, sizes, under several names and was most commonly known as the Richards Brothers Show. It has been said the family used some of the show animals to plow fields on the Bandera County ranch. Records and tradition indicate that Andrew Jackson retired to Alabama leaving the reins of the show to his son, Henry Birdo who died in 1918 and his wife, Mattie Lee, in 1919, both of TB. Both are buried in the Boerne Cemetery.
