The private property is known as the Frank Goerlitz land in the John G. Welchmeyer Survey approximately 3 miles north of McDade off of Cnty Rd. 129. Sometime before 1883, Gottfried Eschberger and Mr. Wolf, were digging a water well for Franz Wolf in the Christian Survey. They dug deep enough to hit dead air and both men suffocated. With a rope and hook, fresh green branches with lots of green leaves were lowered getting enough oxygen inside the well for a rescue team to remove the bodies. In another location on the same property is the unmarked grave of Rosina Weise, infant daughter of Alwiene Goerlitz Weise. The location was marked by little red shoelace flowers that sprang forth to bloom every spring as told by Robert F. "Sonny" Brown, a relative on the Goerlitz side.
