Browning started the first newspaper in Seymour in 1879. He moved his equipment to Seymour from Palo Pinto, Texas and called the paper "The Cresset". The newspaper was a four page, four column paper, increased later to seven columns. Judge Browning had a printer, Mr. Banteau. Mr. Banteau died in the spring of 1880 and R.E. McLain started learning the newspaper business under Judge Browning. Judge Browning edited the newspaper until January 1882 when Mr. McLain became editor. 1890 - the paper was sold to W.A. Jones and the newspaper name was changed to the "Seymour Monitor." Jones sold the newspaper to Frank Pierce and Mr. Voglesang. The newspaper burned in 1892 and never rebuilt. 1886 - Matheny and Norwood started "The Seymour Semiter" but the newspaper was dissolved in 1887. 1891 - George Barber started "The Seymour News" but the newspaper lasted until 1892. 1895 - Norwood returned to Seymour and started the "Baylor County Banner". The Baylor County Banner's ownership changed hands many times. 1900, the Baylor County Banner was owned by Norwood and Bellows. 1903 - Dan Bellows and Forest Taylor purchased the Baylor County Banner and published the newspaper in the McLain Hotel. 1908 - Norwood and Harrison are owners of the Baylor County Banner. 1920 - O.C. Harrison, Sr. became editor and publisher of the Baylor County Banner. He owned the newspaper until his death. The Baylor County Banner continues publishing in Seymour.
