BELL COUNTY, TEXAS CEMETERIES BY CEMETERY NAME AS OF March 30, 1999 =============================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, material may be freely used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material, AND permission is obtained from the contributor of the file. Some previously unidentified cemeteries are being located and can be added to this list at a later time. There is some confusion about two names for some cemeteries, and it is expected there are some duplicates. We will correct this list as information is developed and re-post it as needed. Cemeteries presently shown as "unnamed" or "unknown" will be identified with some unique name or number, for convenience in locating them. We hope to post the latitude and longitude or UTM coordinates for each cemetery, either from the US Census Bureau GNIS system, or from readings taken from a hand-held Global Positioning System (GPS) unit. The number shown at the first part of the Location line is a Bell County unique number, locally assigned, for cemetery identification purposes. Number(s) at the end of the location description refer to sources of abstracts from which we eventually hope to upload data to the Archives. For example, the "Note 1" indicates an abstract for that cemetery was found in Bell County Cemeteries, a compliation by Polly Peaks-Elmore. A number of cemeteries in the county were relocated at the time of the establishment of Fort Hood (originally Camp Hood) around the beginning of World War II. Their name is shown here, with the cemetery to which the remains were moved. CAUTION: NOT ALL OF CAMP/FORT HOOD CEMETERIES ARE OR WERE ONLY IN BELL COUNTY!! Some will be categorized as Coryell County sites. Over time, we will attempt to show only Camp/Fort Hood cemeteries that are in Bell County's present boundaries. Several cemeteries pre-dating the establishment of Fort Hood and it's artillery impact areas are shown as "Fort Hood" nearest town. These cemeteries are inside impact areas and are only accessible once a year during a time specifically set aside by Range Control for that purpose. The letters "AKA" have their usual meaning of "also known as." CEMETERY NAME NEAREST TOWN BC# LOCATION (Unnamed- Theo?)
