Used by permission. Mitchell Family Cemetery is located 2 miles east of Youngsport, Texas, (on original Mitchell Farm now owned by Granddaughter Mildred Mitchell Gower.) Direction: From Killeen, Texas, take Texas Highway 195 (Formerly FM 440) south, turn left on FM 2484 to Youngsport. Go through Youngsport, turn left on Iron Bridge Road, go 2 miles, turn in gate to 3d house on right. Cemetery is in field. >From right of gate: Amelia Mitchell (wife of J. L. Mitchell) 27 December 1850 19 December 1887 Next five graves do not have tombstones, only rocks for markers. William Merrill (brother of Amelia Mitchell) Janie Mitchell (Parents are J. L. and Amelia Mitchell.) Josie Mitchell (Parents are J. L. and Amelia Mitchell.) Annie Mitchell and twin (Parents are J. L. and Amelia Mitchell.) Joe Mitchell, Jr. Mrs. Mary Mitchell (Mother of Pete C. (Pink) & Joe) 14 February 1807 (Great Grandmother of Mildred Holmes Gower) 10 March 1875 In Memory of the Twin Daughter of P. C. and M. M. Mitchell. Died at birth December 1877. In Memory of Lillie May daughter of P. C. and M. M. Mitchell 6 April 1885 6 January 1886 In Memory of Emma daughter of P. C. and M. M. Mitchell. Born 27 October 1890 and Died December 1890. Millie M. Mitchell (Wife of P. C. Mitchell) 9 December 1846 "She died as she lived Trusting in God" 22 April 1916 P. C. Mitchell 26 December 1846 "He is at rest in heaven." 13 December 1922 Second row has two graves. Melinda Norwood Born 1814 "Gone but not forgotten" 1 September 1894 W. H. Mitchell, Jr. (Son of W. H. and R. Mitchell) 22 May 1899 "Sleep on dear child and take thee rest in Jesus 28 August 1905 forever blessed" Fifteen burials; 14 graves as twins are buried in the same grave. All the graves in this cemetery are families of P. C. (Uncle Pink) and J. L. (Joe) Mitchell, but for two graves. William Merritt was the brother of Amelia Mitchell, and Melinda Norwood was an elderly lady that made her home with them. Two sets of twins are buried here. P. C. and wife; J. L. and wife each had a set of twins. Mrs. Mary Mitchell was our Great Grandmother. Her husband died during the Civil War and is buried in Mabelton, Georgia. She came to Texas with one of her sons and died 10 March 1875. Mary Mitchell Holmes, mother of Mildred Holmes Gower, is buried in Live Oak Cemetery, Youngsport, Texas, and is not the same Mary Mitchell as interned in this cemetery.
