The submitter has given permission to the USGenWeb Archives to store the file permanently for free access. ============================================================================= SUBMITTER: Gayle Clemons Newkirk Simmons Family Cemetery (GPS coordinates: North 30 degrees 49" 53 seconds; West 97 degrees, 17" 39 seconds, at an elevation of 480 feet. This site is located approximately 8.5 miles east of the town of Holland on Texas FM 2268. You will see a street sign on your left marking Clark Rd. And Wood Rd. Turn into the next driveway on the right (The farm of Roy Doskocil 22111 FM 2268 is on mailbox). Follow the main road towards a shed at the south end of the property. Just before you get to the shed you will veer off to the right on a trail. As you proceed you will see a cemetery on your right which should be the Hennington Cemetery. The Simmons cemetery is on the back side of this lot. It is surrounded by a chain-link fence and has a metal sign near the gate which reads "Simmons". ============================================================================= The cemetery was first used in 1904 for the burial of Della Elizabeth Simmons Clements (born Jan 1873 in Milam County and died 1 May 1904 Bell County. She is the daughter of John Simmons (buried in this cemetery) and Susana Mumford (buried at the Taylor-Mumford Cemetery in Milam Co.) Della was married to Thomas Ashley Clements on December 29, 1893 in Williamson Co. and she left three children, Will (Isaac Luther) Clements, Annie Clements, and Bert David Clements. Most of these graves are marked with metal funeral home markers which were placed around 1970. Others buried in this cemetery are: John Simmons (Born 28 April 1849 Died 29 August 1927) Callie Simmons (Born 1 January 1849 Died 21 November 1926) Lena Simmons (died 1913) Infant Son of Frank and Jesse Simmons (Born 1916 Died 1918) John Simmons son of John and Callie Simmons (died 1908) Bill Simmons (Infant) Bill Simmons (2nd Infant) Susie Simmons (Born 1896 Died 1898) Near the gate lies the grave of Sam Taylor (Born 1836 Died 1922). Uncle Sam as he was lovingly called was a slave belonging to the Taylor family. He traveled with them from Florida.
