Burns February 16, 2002 =========================================================================== 1891 CONFEDERATE VETERANS REUNION IN TEMPLE, TX The following list of Confederate veterans and their units appeared in the Temple Weekly Times of July 3, 1891. It was published on pages 111-113 of "Genealogical Abstracts from Central Texas Newspapers, Vol. 1, 1885-1899" by Michael Kelsey, copyright 1987. There is also an index on the microfiche that indicates the frame numbers where the list appears. The list is reprinted on this Bell County web site by kind permission of Michael Kelsey. These veterans attended a reunion of Parson's Brigade (12th Texas Cavalry) in Temple, Texas on June 30, 1891, but most served in units other than Parson's Brigade. Attendees came from all over Texas, and many listed Confederate service from outside of the state. Thirty-eight Bell County veterans attended this reunion, which was held in Bell County. Some individuals are listed as being from the 21th Texas rather than the 21st or the 12th. In limited checking, those marked 21th either showed up in rosters of the 21st or did not appear on rosters of the 12th. Elected officers appear both at the top of the list and individually in the list of attendees but often with slightly different spellings (perhaps their names were easier to decipher on the attendee list). Attendee names are alphabetized but not the elected officers. Otherwise, the list is as it appeared in Kelsey's microfiche. Question marks, capitalization and spellings are as shown on the microfiche. There are a few obvious misspellings and questionable entries, but they are left as they appeared. Parentheses indicate that the alternate spelling, question marks, or county names appeared in parenthesis on the microfiche. My entries of possible corrections, sic notations, and probable counties the towns are located in are shown in brackets, []. Kelsey's publication was found on microfiche at the Clayton Library in Houston, Texas by Brian P. Burns, great-great-great grandson of the William Burns whose name appears on the list. The newspaper abstracts contain a lot of interesting genealogical information from the 1880s and 1890s. William A.
