Camacho Rites To Be Held Saturday Joe Ned Camacho, 60, a former Killeen businessman and city councilman, died Wednesday night in a Temple hospital. He was hospitalized last week. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Richard Stone officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jesse Leos and the Rev. Cruz Granados. Burial will be in the Killeen City Cemetery with graveside Masonic services. Camacho, of 716 West Church, served two terms as a city councilman in Killeen. He was first elected in 1961 and was re-elected in 1963. He also formerly served as a reserve police sergeant and was an associated member of the Killeen Fire Department. During his terms as city councilman, Camacho routinely questioned developers concerning provisions for playgrounds in new plats submitted for council approval. As a result, one developer donated a small plot in northwest Killeen as a park area provided it be named the Joe Camacho Park. Camacho owned and operated the Bake Shop on North 8th for 18 years. He had lived here since 1952. Camacho was a member and ruling elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Killeen, a member of the Austin Masonic Lodge No. 12, a member of Scottish Rite Bodies of Austin, a member of Karem Temple Shrine in Waco, a member of Oddfellows Lodge, a member of Eastern Star No. 490 and of Rebekah Lodge No. 232. He formerly was a member of the Killeen Kiwanis Club. He was born in Waelder, Tex., March 11, 1912. Survivors include his wife, Lucille, of Killeen; two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Moreno of Austin and Mrs. Emma Thirstrup of Hays, Kan., five grandchildren: Three brother, Daniel Camacho of Austin, Jessie Camacho of Kansas City, Mo., and Henry Camacho of Killeen: seven sisters, Mrs. Pauline Alaniz of Austin, Mrs. Marie Catanzaro of Killeen, Mrs. Martha Teaff of San Antonio, Mrs. Kate Barron of Taylor, Mrs. Ada Trevino of Killeen, Mrs. Connie Lozano of Killeen and Mrs. Sara Jimenez of Kansas City, Mo; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be men of the First Presbyterian Church and Larry Thirstrup, Anthony Moreno, Tony Moreno, Pat McCurrin. A. J. Hall, Roy Dunlap, Bob Miller, the Rev. Bob Miller, the Rev. Odell Roberts, the Rev. Leonard Burton, Vaughn Camacho, Bill Dean and Larry Dean. Pallbearers will be members of Masonic Lodge 1125. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
