Mc Thompson (sic) CSA Additional Comments: Born Jasper Newton McDonald Thomson on 20 Jan 1843 in Old Nashville, Milam County, TX, the sixth of nine children born to William Dowsing Thomson and Permelia Ann Evans. "Mac" as he was known, was named after his uncle who drew a black bean at the Mier Expedition and was executed by firing squad on the orders of Santa Anna. Mac served as a private in Company K, 1st Texas Cavalry, CSA and fought at the battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill. He married Ellen Cammack of Union County, AR on 19 Dec 1867 in Brenham, TX. He was the father of eight children: William Dawson Thomson (1868-1912), Permelia Roxanna Thomson (1871-1970), Mary Alabama Thomson (1874-1956), Loretta Lola Thomson (1876), Ellis Cromwell Thomson (1880-1964), Forest Preston Thomson (1883-1925), Myrtice N. Thomson (1886-1972), Knox Daniel Thomson (1891-1900). Mac operated various businesses in Belton and in 1887 he was elected Mayor of Belton and oversaw the completion of the current court house. He died on 2 Mar 1913 and was buried in North Belton Cemetery with his wife. The spelling on his tombstone is incorrectly listed as "Thompson."
