It is South of San Antonio along Loop 1604, approximately 1.3 miles East of Texas Highway 16. Marker numbers are labeled by row (A through K in the old part of the cemetery, L through R in the new part) and gravestone number. Row A starts at the Southwest corner of the cemetery, closest to the church. Each row starts at the South fence and runs North from there to the North fence. In the new part of the cemetery, each row also starts along the South boundary and runs to the fence on the North side which separates it from the old section of the cemetery. Oak Island Cemetery was surveyed on October 21, 2000 by members of Boy Scout Troop 329 and their families. It was an Eagle Scout Service Project by Brent Stahlman. The computer data was verified on October 28, 2000 and October 30, 2000. The second reading was done in approximately 1986 by Lou E. Burton. These two previous reading contained information on the following grave markers that we could not find during our research: George T. SMITH Nov. 11, 1891 – Aug. 25, 1921 entry from 1970 reading, not on Lou Burton’s list Lou Burton also indicates that there are unmarked graves in the cemetery: “There are two unmarked graves in the DURBON lot that belong to two SNIDER children.” (page 4)
