F. Wilhite, 62, guest at the Grant Hotel, Commerce and Frio Streets,who was shot through the abdomen by Detective W. T. Swift Friday night, and who was reported near death,remained unchanged Saturday, acording to reports at the Robert B. Green Hospital, where he was taken for treatment. Detective Swift stated after the shooting that he had fired in self defence. Officers responded to a call from the hotel that a man was running amuck armed with a gun, and the capture of Wilhite followed. When officers arrived at the hotel they said, the man ran into his room and locked the door. When he refused to surrender tear gas was released by the detectives. Headed by Detective lieut. McDonald. Detective Swift was on the roof of an adjoining building, it was said. Wilhite burst through the screen of his room and climbed onto the roof. He suddenly faced Swift. Wilhite fell from a shoot. Miss Oma Grant, hotel proprietor. said the man had been a resident of the hotel for the past two years. No information as to relatives was given. Additional Comments: Police Gun Victim at Stae Hospital J.F.- Wilhite, 65 who was hoot by detective W.T. Swift when he is said to have run amuck with a shootgun at the Grant Hotel, 1328 West Commerce street, last week, was transferred from the Robert B. Green to the San Antoni state hospital under guard wenesday. Swift said that he shoot wilhite after the latter tried to shoot him.
