DR. S. S.  McCRUM  DEAD
Practiced Medicine for 38 Years  --  Served as Lieutenant in Army

Dr. Samuel S. McCrum, aged 63 years, residing at 315 East Quincy Street, died 
at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon in a local hospital after a brief illness.  
Dr. McCrum had practiced medicine for the past 38 years, but retired from his 
profession some time ago to engage in the real estate and loan business.  He 
served during the World War as a first lieutenant, medical corps, and was 
assigned for duty with the 304th Motor Transport Corps at Camp Normoyle.  He 
was discharged about six months after the signing of the armistice.
Dr. McCrum was born November 2, 1857, at Charlotte, N.C., and came to Texas in 
1876, and was married here in 1892 to Miss Emma L. Simmons.  He was a graduate 
of Vanderbilt University, from both the school of literature and of medicine.  
He was also a graduate of the Chicago Polyclinic, and was a member of the 
American Medical Assoc.
He was a member of the local Scottish Rite Masonic organization, the I.O.O.F. 
and the Woodmen of the World.  Surviving besides the widow he leaves a 
daughter, Jessie, and a son, Douglas McCrum.
