Although Millsap Cafeterias Inc., were not in the public eye, many people knew of the couple’s reputation, said his daughter, Vicki Krueger of Houston. Millsap, 72, died suddenly Wednesday. He was the father of former Bexar County District Attorney Sam Millsap Jr. Legally blind since he was young, Millsap overcame his handicap, his daughter said. “He did everything a blind person wasn’t supposed to do,” she said. “There was nothing my Dad hadn’t done.” Millsap became active in helping organizations for the blind in his early years and continued for many years, Krueger said. “He always was doing for other people,” she said. “He truly was a hero to me and to everybody.” When Millsap and his wife opened a new cafeteria in their chain, he would design the layout of the building using a peg board and “nuts and bolts,” said his wife, Ruth Plunket Millsap of San Antonio. He served as chairman of the board of directors at Goodwill Industries for about 10 years and received the Chairman’s Award from the organization in 1977. Other survivors include a daughter, Gingie Nelle Hudgens of Santa Teresa, N.M.; a sister, Virginia Smith of Luling; a brother, Reid Millsap of Dallas; and four grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with entombment following in Sunset Mausoleum No. 2.
