Walker, who was killed at the battle of Hunmantla, is about the saddest news which has reached us from Mexico for a long time. How dearly bought was the victory which cost the life of such a man. He was one of the boldest spirits in the army, and he has won a name which will long survive him. Additional Comments: The Hannibal Journal was published at Hannibal, Marion County, MO. According to Wikipedia, the "Batalla de Huamantla" happened on 8 October 1847. In addition, the Wikipedia article refers to Captain Walker as the head of the cavalry of "Rangers" of Texas and creator of the Walker pistols. According to the official museum of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame, Captain Walker's full name was Samuel Hamilton Walker and date of death was 9 October 1847. Capt. Walker was buried at San Antonio.
