Sam Houston National Cemetery Name: Ned Phillip Ewing Ned Phillip Ewing, son of John William and his wife Nellie J.Ewing of McAllen,Texas was born July 29, 1918. He served in the Border Patrol before entering the Marine Corps. for WWII. He was an expert rifleman and assigned to and anti-tank unit. Upon arriving on Iwo Jima, he was transferred to Infantry Man and severely wounded when a mortar round went off behind him. His skull was fractured severly and he was left for dead. Fortunately for all after two days of lying on the beach, a corpman heard him moan and he was immediately transferred to the hospital ship. He lived in Texas most of his life but spent a few years in MO.where he and his wife owned a summer home on the lake. He died in San Antonio October. 11, 1993 and is buried in FT.SAM HOUSTON NATIONAL CEMETERY in San Antonio, Texas. Additional Comments: This picture may not be copied or reproduced for any reason.
