Fred had Huntington's Disease which he inherited from his mother. Emma
raised her children alone after he left in about 1913 by working as a
nurse. Cecil, Naomi, and JJ also died of HD. Fred, Cecil, and JJ all
died at the State Insane Asylum in Austin where they lived after the
disease worsened. Sarah died of complications of childbirth.
