Among the first community projects of the new neighbors was the construction of a school building, a one-room structure. It was also used for church & social gatherings. The original schoolhouse was replaced in the 1930s by a newer structure." Like its predecessor, it also served as a church & community center. The school was consolidated with other area schools in 1938 & the building later was dismantled. These directions by: Teresa K. PARRISH--Take Hwy. 22 bwtween Meridian and Whitney Dam. Turn North on FM 56, go about 6 miles past entrance to Cedar Shores and across Cedron Creek. Take the 1st left hand gravel road, about 1 miles. Cemetery is on the left inside a pasture. It is posted but cemetery visitors are welcome. (Updated 07 DEC 2002) In a corner of the cemetery off by itself is a rock that according to legend marks the location of the grave of "Indian Joe". Legend has it that in the late 1800's a wounded indian brave was found, some of the women settlers tried to nurse him back to health, but he died, they buried him in a corner with only a large rock for a marker...............................never learning his true name.
