Smith, born Aug. 22, 1799 in Edgefield Dist., S.C. died Aug. 23, 1867 Additional Comments: John Jackson Smith and Margaret "Peggy" Butler Smith, moved to Bosque County, Texas in 1854 from Scott County, Mississippi. They settled on several thousand acres with their family members and slaves. J.J. Smith had been the first elected sheriff in Scott County when it was formed from the Choctaw lands in 1834.
