Moore, was born in Rockingham County, N. C., and came to TexasIn 1867. He farmed extensively, both Red River bottom and hill land near Myrtle Springs, and in 1869 married Miss Colie Smith, youngest daughter of J. Frank Smith, then living one mile north of the present Town of Hooks. There were born to D. S. and Colie Moore, five daughters, Alice the eldest married Dr. H. M. Burroughs of New Boston, and died shortly after her marriage. Mag became the wife of Dr. Wilder of Hooks, where she resided her husband having died in 1919. Three other married daughters, Lizzie Rochelle, Beulah Howell, and Frank Hack, with their husbands are living in Texarkana. Few men ever lived who were more popular, or more universally esteemed within his circle of friends than David S. Moore. His death occurred August 23, 1891. His widow survived him and spent her declining years in the homes of her loving children.
