Of aquiet, modest, and unassuming disposition, and studious and of exemplary deportment, in and out of school, it is not at all strange that Jim Smith had the respect and esteem of his schoolmates and teacher. His father, James Smith, Sr., is now past his allotted three score and ten years, but is in the enjoyment of fairly good health. He was the only son of J. F. Smith, who died in 1869, and the grandson of Warren Hooks, a pioneer, whose death occurred in 1876. Since the death of his wife, Mr. Smith, Sr. spends his declining years with his several children residing at and near Hooks, and being a devout member Of the Christian Church is patiently waiting the roll call "up yonder".
