County Boundary History Source: Texarkana Genealogical Society, 1976 *************************************** County Boundary History “Red River County shall be bounded as follows viz: Beginning at the mouth Bois ‘d Arc, running up that stream to Carters Cliff crossing thence south to a point west of the head of Big Cypress, east to its head and down to Sodo Lake, thence east to line of U. S., with that line up Red River to the beginning” and required “That the courts of said county be held at La Grange, (about 4 miles east of present county seat, Clarksville), “The term of District Court to be held second Monday of Jan., 1838.” The territory defined comprised Lamar, Hopkins, Delta, Franklin, Morris, Cass, Marion, and Bowie Counties. In 1840 Bowie and Lamar were cut off, and in 1841 the county of Paschal was to comprise territory south of Sulphur - afterward this act was declared unconstitutional.
