Texarkana Daily Independent Newspaper - 1886 May 29, 1886 Miss Genie Lowe is visiting in Wooten Wells. Misses Mamie and Minnie Burke went with Mr. Jesse Joyner of Richmond, Arkansas to visit. Miss Stella Fowkles has returned from a trip of six months to Richmond, Arkansas. Miss Willie Elliott, daughter of Judge W. H. Elliott will return home tomorrow. Mrs. W. H. Wingfield has as her guest, her sister Miss Lula Hamilton of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Miss Mary Rosborough will return home in a few days from visiting in Atlanta. Miss Annie Hunt of Queen City has been visiting Misses Burks. Misses Mamie Hooks and Lizzie Tilson and Miss Eck, Messrs. Reade, Grafton, Patillo, Jesse Estes, and Bob Henry had a picnic out at Red Springs last Tuesday. Mrs. Lizzie Byars is better. Miss E. Brown is visiting Mrs. Bartlett. Capt. Ed Booker is up from the river attending the meeting of the Democratic Central Committee. Miss Amboline Ghio and her guest, Miss Minnie Ware, of Memphis, Tenn., visited the Independent yesterday. E. S. Greening of Camden visited us yesterday. Ed Dencan will play the bass drum in our band. Mrs. MARX and Miss Bertie will leave for Waukeshaw ? tomorrow. Judge Rush is up from Springdale. Capt. John Trigg is in Little Rock. Judge Freidell is back from Memphis. Col. Flippin is ill at home. Mr. Welcome and family have moved to John Allen's new residence, fronting the Miller County Courthouse. A. J. Mims of Richmond, Arkansas, visited our city Monday. Joe Murphy has made a pair of the finest racing boats (rowing) ever made in Texarkana, for the race at Clear Lake next Tuesday. They are on display at his residence, near Draughon mansion. Ross Moores, of Richmond, will visit our city on Monday. J. L. Lee is in town, and will get up a writing school. J. F. Smith of the "City Drug Store" is not seriously ill in St Louis as reported. He is in Hot Springs now. Judge Calvin M. Hervey of Lost Prairie, and Hon. Frank M. Thompson of Hope are to be judges of the rowing race on Clear Lake next Tuesday, between Texarkana and Prescott. F. M. Henry's son, S. J. Henry, will deliver the opening address at Lebonon, Tennessee Law School today. W. A. Kelsey, Chas. Goldberg, and J. M. Benefield are managers elected to take your contributions for the American Bible Society. Will T. Hudgins of the West side has announced himself as a candidate for state representative of the 17th District of Texas. The New Boston Herald endorses his candidacy, as we do. Miller County Arkansas Teachers Association meets Sat. June 5 at the courthouse. G.
