O. Chenault of Maud were killed shortly beofre 4 p.m. MOnday when their cars collided on Highway 67 about 11 west of Texarkana. All were pronounced dead on arrival at Texarkana's hospitals in Texarkana and East ambulances. Mrs. Whatley was a switchboard operator at Hotel Grim. She was 56 years old and had lived with her sister, Mrs. Elmer Lincoln of 2703 Magnolia Street, since her husband's death about six years ago. Mr. Chenault, 68, was a retired employee of the city of Dallas who moved to Maud in September, 1957. His wife, Zelma, was 54. The collision occured at the foot of a hill about a mile east of Redwater, the two cars hitting nearly head on. The man and one of the women were thrown from the cars and the other woman was found crumpled behind the steering wheel. The tragedy was investigated by Texas Highway Patrolmen James Gee, L.C. Evans and Henry Slaton. Gee said the Chenaults' 1954 Chevrolet apparently was headed west, and Mrs. Whatley's 1955 Mercury was going east. He said the collision occured in Chenault's lane and skidmarks indicated Mrs.Whatley was on the wrong side of the road. The fronts of both cars were badly damaged, the Chevrolet taking the impact on its right front fender. Mrs. John F Cunningham, niece of Mrs. Whatley said the family did not know where her aunt had been, but presumed she had been to Linden where her home is located and was returning to Texarkana when the collision occured. Mrs.Whatley's co-workers at Hotel Grim said she had expressed some concern about the posibility of frozen water pipes at her house, and she might have gone to Linden to check them. She left her work at 10:30 a.m. Monday. She maintained at home there although she had lived in Texarkana since her husband's death. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Linden. Mrs. Whatley, born in Kildare, is survived by a daughter, Mrs. John Hill of Waverly, Kas. and three grandchildren. William Owen Chenault was born on September 2, 1890, in Dallas. His wife was born on June 21, 1984, in Maud. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Surviving are her mother, Mrs.Dessie Foster of Maud, three brothers, E.J. Foster and I.O. Foster of Maud, and C.L. Foster of Texarkana. Last Rites Will Be Held Today For 2 Victims of Wreck Funeral services will be help at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church at Maud for Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Chenault of Maud, two of three persons who died in an accident of Highway 67 Monday. The Rev. Alvirt? A. Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in the Center Ridge cemetary. Active pallbearers for Mrs. Chenault will be J.L. Ragland, Dexter Clary, Jack Provence, Chester Minton, G.C. Rachel and Lloyd Lindsey. Active pallbearers for Mrs. Chenault will be H.E. Parr, W.M. Parr, Eugene White, Grady Rogers, Clayton Adams, and Floyd Mills. Honorary pallbearers _______? other friends of the couple. Their bodies will be removed to the family residence at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday to remail until the funeral hour. Mr. Chenault is survived by a daughter, Mrs. George Sanford of San Antonio,Texas, and a sister, Mrs. C.D. Peavy of Dallas. His wife is survived by her mother, Mrs. Dessie Foster of Maud and three brothers, E.J. Foster and I.O. Foster, also of Maud, and C.L. Foster of Texarkana. Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Jewell Lemmon Whatley, 56, of 2703 Magnolia Street, the third collision victim, are incomplete.
