Visitation will be held from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 22nd, just prior to the service. Services will be at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of New Boston with Bro Ken Cox officiating. Burial will be in Read Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bates Rolf Funeral Home. Martha Ann Jones Douglass was born to the late Horace and Lela Jones in Louann, Arkansas. She was born the middle child of three sisters. Martha grew up on a farm on the banks of the Red River and later became a town girl. She had many fond memories and stories of her close family and her love for her parents and sisters. Martha graduated from Fouke High School at 16 years of age and went to Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. Ms. Douglas began her career with the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and married Urban Edward Douglass, Jr. in 1947. Martha and Doug were married for 48 years. The last 12 years of Martha's life has been filled with dancing, travel and the companionship of Hiram Shute. Martha and Hiram enjoyed a special relationship that filled both their lives with joy and deep affection, which lasted until the end of Martha's life. Survivors include daughters Deborah Thompson and husband, Paul, of Whitehouse, husband, Kyle, of San Antonio; five grandchildren, including Leigh Ann King and husband, Kevin King, of Whitehouse; Douglas Browning Thompson, and wife, Tamara Jacqueline, of Tyler; Chad Douglass Cunov, Cole David Cunov and Cade Edward Cunov, all of San Antonio; two great-grandchildren, Carson Michael King and Cooper Kemble King, also of Whitehouse. Martha Douglass is also survived by her two loving sisters, lla Betterton, of Bossier City and Patricia Spigener and husband, Gordon, of Shreveport. Other survivors include niece Cynthia Elliot and husband, Jim Elliot of Baton Rouge; niece Cara Holloway and children, Aaron, Abby and Ally. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, family and friends. Special thanks to Martha's beloved caregivers, Gail Talbot, who made it possible for Martha to live out the end of her life as she wished...in her home, and to Joanne Jones and Carolyn Travis, all of whom were unfailingly kind, gentle and compassionate. The life of Martha Ann Jones Douglass was filled with love of others, friendship, and acts of kindness. She leaves us with dear memories and the unfailing love of a Mother, a Grandmother, a Meme and a wonderful sister. Martha Ann was vivacious, full of fun, and reminded us to all "count our many blessings." She was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
