Margaret was born April 23, 1922, to the late Paul and Malzaree Davenport in Texarkana, Texas. She was educated in Texarkana, graduating from Dunbar High School in 1939. Margaret accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age, uniting with Polly Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Texarkana, where she served faithfully until moving to Woodland. Once here she united with Greater Second Baptist Church. Eventually she became the pianist of the adult and children's choir, a position she held for 36 years plus, until her recent illness. Margaret spent 28 dedicated years nursing at Yolo General Hospital, where she established many lifelong friendships and acquaintances. She retired in 1984 to become involved in numerous endeavors in community volunteer work. She gave hope and salvation to many, helping feed and clothe others. She was constantly reaching out to those less fortunate in the community. Her personality reflected her love for family, friends and Christ. Her sense of humor and love is how we will fondly remember our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her sister Pauline; brother Howard; mother Malzaree; father Paul; and brother Herbert. She leaves to cherish many precious memories of her love and devotion: her son, Tom Davenport, daughter Janet Smith, both of Woodland, Alfreda Mitchell and husband Winston of Yakima, Wash.; brothers Rev. Paul Davenport of Sacramento and James Davenport of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Olivia Smith, Stephanie, Dan Jr., and Albert O'Neal, and Thomas and Michelle Davenport; great grandchild, Diallo J. Thompson; "special" daughter, Thelma Blakes; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. Friends and loved ones are invited for visitation at Kraft Bros., 175 Second St., Woodland, on Wednesday, April 3, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., and may attend her memorial on Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m., at Greater Second Baptist Church, 435 Second St., Woodland. Memorial contributions may be made, in her name, to: Food Bank of Yolo County, 741 East St., No. 333, Woodland, 95776. A fee has been paid to print this obituary.
