Obit: Bowie Co Texas - GASKELL SPENCER Gaskell R. (Gas) Spencer 89,of Redwater,Texas died Tuesday December 28, 1969 in a Texarkana nursing home. Mr. Spencer was born January 28,1880 in Oxford,Miss to the late J.O. and Emmonds Robuck Spencer. He was a native of Redwater, moved to Waco in 1940, and moved back about a year ago. He was retired from Cotton Belt Railroad after 35 years of service and was a former constable at Redwater and was a former trustee of Redwater Schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church,Redwater. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Mary (Edna) Spencer of Redwater; two daughters, Jeanette Creed of Redwater; and Marvis Lee Vickery of Corpus Christi,Texas; three sons, Joe (Mike) Spencer and G.R. (Bill) Spencer of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Glenn W. Spencer of Houston; one sister, Nadine Johnson of Redwater; one brother, Emil Spencer of Tyler,Texas; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church,Redwater with the Revs. Joe Syrgley and W.L. McQueen officiating. Burial will be in Redwater Cemetery under direction of Texarkana Funeral Home. The family will be at the home of Jeanette Creed in Redwater.
