As kids they got into mischief together. Raymond was also a close friend of Bill Brumbelow, Joe’s younger brother. Bill still lives in Damon, TX. Some comments by Joe Brumbelow at the Funeral: [With some humor Joe said,] “I have many memories of Raymond Goode - most are pleasant.” “He was one of my closest friends. We played together. We went hunting, fishing, trapping, and swimming together. Lots of times we got in trouble together. We gave Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Blount (Damon school teachers) a bad time. When there was a disturbance Mr. Blount would say, ‘It’s either Joe Brumbelow or Raymond Goode.’ We had many great times and great memories. But most important by far was something that happened to Raymond at Damon Baptist Church. During the worship service they sang songs like, ‘I Shall Not Be Moved,’ ‘Standing On The Promises,’ ‘The Lily Of The Valley,’ and then a sermon from the Bible was preached. Raymond realized he was a lost sinner headed for hell. He knew that Jesus was the Savior who died for his sins. Raymond walked the aisle during the invitation, prayed and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord.” Brother Joe Brumbelow referred to the Bible verses below in this Memorial Message. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. -Philippians 1:21; The Bible For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. -Philippians 1:23; The Bible Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” -Revelation 14:13; The Bible A book about Rev. Brumbelow was published in 2005: The Wit and Wisdom of Pastor Joe Brumbelow, hannibalbooks.com. Raymond Goode and others in Damon are mentioned in this book. By the way, Joe eventually straightened up and made peace with the above school teachers and even preached Mrs. Blount’s funeral. -submitted by his son, David R. Brumbelow, P.O.
