All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************************* ROBERT MONROE HILL was born April 23,1873,to WILLIAM BUEL and BRUNETTE DICKERSON HILL in Hickory County Missouri. He was the third son and the 7th child of 8 children. He married MILLIE CLERCY BAILEY 1n 1893 in Benton County Missouri. After the death of his mother, Robert and his wife and two children, Buelah and Buel, left Missouri with his father William B. for the state of Texas, traveling by team and covered wagon. They arrived in Briscoe County in 1896. Wm B. leased land 3 miles East and 1 mile South of the town of Silverton. Their first home was a half dugout built of adobe bricks and part wood. Three of his siblings, JAMES R.& AANNA "BELLE" HILL, HODSON C. & MINERVA HILL DOAK, and WM H.& LORETTA"LOUIE"HILL CHESSER came to Texas in the early 1900s. Only the Doaks stayed moving to Hereford, Texas, the others moving to Oklahoma. Several of his siblings moved to Washington State including his older brother JOHN RICHARD HILL. Robert M. bought the Wm B. Hill farm and that is where they lived and raised their children. Twelve children were born with 10 surviving. Two baby boys died in infancy. Most of their children married local young men and women and spent all or part of their lives in Briscoe Co. BUELAH married JACK BROOKS; BUEL married MABEL ALLARD; BERTHA married GEORGE D. HAMRICK; LELA married HERMAN PITTS; ZELDA married ALLISON BAILEY CHILDRESS; RICHARD married OPAL BRANNON; ROBERT LEE married WETA HALEY; JESSIE married WILLIE MORTON; HOYT married EMMA LOU WINN; and BAILEY married LANELL HAMILTON. Robert M. Hill helped build the first Methodist Church in Silverton where all the family attended. His father William Buel was a Methodist circuit riding preacher. He made many trips to Estelene, Texas by wagon and team for their supplies. R.M served on the school board and was Briscoe County Commissioner for 14 years. Mrs R.M., Millie, died suddenly at 50 years of age in 1922. There were 5 children at home at the time of her death. Some years later, R.M. married Mrs ALMA CLOYD, a widow with two daughters MILDRED and GWENDOLYN. Robert M. and Alma lived on the farm until he died in 1948. Both are buried in the Silverton Cemetery.
