San Mateo is located about 4 and ½ miles west of Rachal, Texas on FM 755 road. It is next to the picnic area on the highway. San Mateo is located on private land belonging to the heirs of Mateo Longoria and Sabina Soliz. The cemetery is available to their descendants. The family decided to start their own cemetery in Mateo Longoria Ranch “La Escuadra” when he died. Mateo Longoria was the third and youngest son of Ponciano Longoria and Maria Rita Villarreal. Sabina S. Longoria’s sister Juanita S. Villarreal and her husband Daniel Villarreal are buried in San Mateo Cemetery. They are the only ones that aren’t immediate family. Sabina and her sister Juanita were married in a double wedding on July 21, 1915 in La Grulla, Texas.
