Take U.S. 183 15 miles North from Brownwood, West on County Road 2273 8 miles, South on County Rd. 2559, 6 tenth of mile. Left at the Windham Cemetery Sign. The cemetery is located where the Pecan Bayou and mouth of Hog Creek meet. In 1864, Dr. John D. Windham and wife Francis Montieth Windham, with their 9 children, settled on the Pecan Bayou very near where the cemetery is located. Within a few years, they buried two of their children, Mary Ann & Willis. The Cemetery has served pioneer families and the community of Byrds for over a century. The oldest legible headstone is that of J.H. McPeters, who died in July, 1879. Also buried in 1879 was Martin Byrd, of whom the Byrds community was named. The Texas Historical Commission designated the Windham Cemetery as an Official Historic Texas Cemetery in 1998. Additional information provided by James T. Furry, Historian. =================================================================================================================================== Name Born Died *Inscription / Comments ( ) =================================================================================================================================== Alexander, (Double Headstone) Allen R. 01-09-1918 12-11-1992 (Footmarker) *CRL US Army Air Corps WWII Billie P. 08-28-1911 No Date (Baskin) Three unidentified graves, south side of Alexander (Marked with Rocks & White Crosses) Anderson, (Double Headstone) D.Q. 08-08-1832 02-12-1885 (David) Agnes 01-06-1838 04-25-1927 (Sister of Martin Byrd) One unidentified grave, north of Anderson and next to Willie Tipton (Marked with Rock & White Crosses) Anderson, William R. 01-16-1860 12-12-1899 *husband of Laura (Old Iron Fence) Barton, Ola 08-21-1886 11-07-1908 *wife of R.
